Abstract Three cell lines of human hepatocellular carcinoma, a bile duct and a gallbladder carcinoma, were successfully established in vitro. Their growth, chromosomes, functional and morphological characteristics were examined. The temperature sensitivity of the cultured human hepatocellular carcinoma cells was studied using a temperature gradient incubator. Inhibition of the cell proliferation and of protein synthesis and disturbance of mitosis were observed in hyperthermia. The findings show the potency of hyperthermia as a clinical therapy of liver cancer.
