Abstract	The work presented in this thesis provides the basis for further work to determine if A2BP1 is involved in sporadic autosomal mental retardation and/or epilepsy. Such studies are currently underway in the Department of Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics, WCH, Adelaide. Identification of the gene related to mental retardation and/or epilepsy will further help in better understanding of the molecular basis of neuronal mechanisms underlying these disorders.
